Our new weaving studio
A few months back we were kindly contacted by Basingstoke college asking us if we could home 10 old 4 shaft table looms. They were sadly having to get rid of them because their spaces were merging which meant the weaving department was closing. They were going to be in the skip at the end of the week if we didn’t pick them up. Obviously we said yes. We’ll think about the logistics later. So we hired a van and filled it with looms.
Luckily my Dad lent me some space in his garage whilst I figured out what to do with all these looms. My dream was to always open up a weaving space with a bunch of looms but wasn’t expecting it to be so soon. Anyway, I had a few months to find a space to put them in. I looked around various spaces new Worthing, and none of them were really working for me. Either too small, too expensive or too far away. I knew about Colonnade House because my husbands had a studio there, we have friends who have studios and I have also exhibited in the gallery space on the ground floor.
The space that was available in our budget was right on the top floor with these really large curved windows. You can see the sea from the space! What a dream. So we said yes!! It took us a few weeks to slowly move the looms in, its quite hard work getting that many looms up that many stairs. Huge thanks to my husband, constantly carting looms from room to room. Not just here but at home too!
So now the studio is all set up and we would love to see you! We are running various weaving workshops so hopefully there is something for all, if not please get in touch and we can chat. We can’t wait!
