Rose Prince - Weaver

My Name is Rose Prince, I am currently on my Placement Year after two years at UAL Chelsea College of Arts, specialised in weaving. I am excited to gain experience and knowledge working alongside Lucy in her beautiful studio for the next few months.

One weaver that has inspired me throughout my journey in weaving is Ann Sutton. She is such an innovative and playful Textile Artist, that continues to think of new ways to expand the weaving world. Her use of unusual materials has always interested me and has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone.

Another Fibre Artist that I enjoy is Judith Scott, born with Down Syndrome and Deaf. She created beautiful abstract sculptures by wrapping yarns around everyday objects such as a shopping trolley! When planning my woven pieces I have become more experimental with the materials I use to create my windings. 

And Lastly, Rebecca Donaldson, from Chocflock Rare Wool Scotland is another Textile Artist that I like. Creating pieces inspired by her surrounding in the countryside, she creates a range of beautiful tapestries and woven pieces with a warm colour palette using her treasured Castlemilk Moorit sheep’s fleece.
